Photo was on Assateague Island, but the Maryland part, not the VA part where they swim some of the horses to Chincoteague to auction them off (the traditional method used to control their population). MD uses contraception injected via dart guns to control their numbers. Both states have about 150 horses on their side of the island. We caught crap for fish, throwing back a few tiny sharks. I also had to do some bird whispering to calm a seagull that got snared in fishing line. It took a few rolls in the waves before I realized why he couldn't fly off the water. D'oh. I untangle the line from his wing and he flew off a little pissed, but otherwise unharmed. The deerflies, no-see-ums and mosquitos on the island are amazingly terrible, even with DEET sprayed head to toe. The ponies often walk close to the water where the breeze and ocean spray keep the insects away - somewhat. That is where I was.
